Dear Sunday School Parents:
September, 2008

We hope your family and an enjoyable and restful summer. We are very excited to begin our Sunday School program for the New Year. Our student orientation is Sunday, Sept. 14th. The following Sunday, there is no Church service in Orange; making Sunday, Sept. 28th, the first day of classes. Children shall report to their classes immediately after communion unless our parish priest makes an announcement. Our classes end immediately after church (11:45am - 12:00pm). For the children in Grades PreK-2nd, please pick up either in the classroom and/or in the small hall (in front of the Sumas Hall). None of the younger children (Grades PreK-2nd grades) shall be allowed to go into the Sumas Hall without a parent/sibling.

Here are some of the things we discussed on September 7th:
-- Curriculum
-- How to prepare and receive Holy Communion
-- Classroom Etiquette & Policies
-- Emergency Exit Procedures
-- Jr. Stewardship
-- Attendance
-- Annual Events
-- Jr. & Senior Oratorical Topics for Grades 7 – 12

Please have the children in Church promptly at 9:30a.m., so that he/she can listen to the Apostle and Gospel Readings. More importantly, we are encouraging the young Children to join their teachers in the first few pews on the left side, as we say the Lord’s Prayer and receive Holy Communion together. Parents are welcomed to sit up front as well. Children shall report to their classes immediately after communion unless noted otherwise by our Parish Priest.

If you haven’t done so already, please be sure to complete your registration form so that we have the correct address and phone numbers to reach you throughout the year. There is a $20 registration fee per family, NOT per child, that is requested for projects and activities throughout the year. Please make your checks payable to Ss. Nicholas, Constantine & Helen and return your forms to either your teachers or the Church office.

We are always happy to answer questions from Parents, and hope and pray you will continue to show such a great interest in your children and their Christian education.

With Love and Faith in Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

The general education our children receive today is simply not enough. In a world that becomes ever more complicated and morally complex, our children run the risk of lacking the spiritual and moral development to navigate their way through these treacherous waters. Our children must balance the advancement of their intellect through traditional schooling with the development of their moral character through education in the Orthodox faith. It is here, in our Sunday School program, that we hope our children will not only make new friends and have fun, but that they will fundamentally build a moral compass that will guide them in later years to what is right and what is true.

My dear friends and parishioners of Ss Nicholas, Constantine and Helen,

By the grace of God, our vision for a new Church has become a reality. We received the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos and have merged our two churches to begin our united path forward.

We are embarking on one of the most exciting times in the history. All parishioners are called upon to contribute to the success of our project. This is a unique opportunity for our families to be directly involved in building our new church for this generation and for the generations to come.

Many opportunities to volunteer and to participate in moving our vision forward will be set before you. We will work with dedication and harmony, and guided by the Holy Spirit we will build a magnificent house for the Lord. Let the fruits of our labors make us both humble and proud.

With Love in Christ,
Fr. Peter Souritzidis
