The history of our Greek School dates back to 1918, a few years after
the first Greeks who came to New Jersey established our community of St.
Nicholas in Newark. The St. Nicholas community was founded and established
as the first Greek school in Newark.
A tradition of Excellence
Throughout its long academic history, our school has educated thousands of
Greek American children. These students not only learned to read, speak and
write in the Greek language, but also gained an immense appreciation for
our history and culture. These children grew up to become productive citizens
of our country, such as doctors, lawyers, artists, politicians, writers,
teachers and business people, to name a few. Our alumni happily continue
this legacy by sending their own children to our school.
Outstanding programs and instructors
Our school offers seven grades - Kindergarten through Sixth grade. Our
experienced teachers are certified in Greek language instruction. The goal
of our school is to make learning the Greek language and culture fun. Throughout
the school year, our students have many opportunities to participate in skits,
plays, and monologues during celebrations such as "The Greek Letters Day",
"Independence Day", and "Commencement Exercises". These programs reinforce
the students' learning and showcase their stage abilities.
We provide a safe and stimulating environment to learn the Greek language,
culture and traditions. In addition to traditional classroom work, teaching
methods include singing, dancing, and national holiday celebrations. Classes
are offered for elementary school age children, beginning with those children
who are of kindergarten age, and adult beginners. The school year runs from
September - April, with classes meeting weekly.

My dear friends and parishioners of Ss Nicholas, Constantine and Helen,
By the grace of God, our vision for a new Church has become a reality. We
received the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos and have merged
our two churches to begin our united path forward.
We are embarking on one of the most exciting times in the history. All
parishioners are called upon to contribute to the success of our project.
This is a unique opportunity for our families to be directly involved in
building our new church for this generation and for the generations to come.
Many opportunities to volunteer and to participate in moving our vision forward
will be set before you. We will work with dedication and harmony, and guided
by the Holy Spirit we will build a magnificent house for the Lord. Let the
fruits of our labors make us both humble and proud.
With Love in Christ,
Fr. Peter Souritzidis |
